RIDGEWOOD, N.J.—Temple Israel & Jewish Community Center (TI-JCC) in Ridgewood will present its seventh annual National Gun Violence Prevention Shabbat on Saturday, Dec. 14.
After the morning Shabbat services, state Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg will present a talk on gun violence prevention.
There is no charge for the service, and all are welcome to attend the service and stay for lunch and conversation at the kiddush.
This talk is part of TI-JCC’s participation in the fall National Vigil for Gun Violence Victims and National Gun Violence Prevention Sabbath Weekend.
Dec. 14 is the anniversary of the tragic shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.
For this event, more than 500 places of worship in 46 states and the District of Columbia, Faiths United to Prevent Gun Violence, and the Washington National Cathedral are joining the Newtown Foundation, States United to Prevent Gun Violence, The Rabbinical Assembly, The Reconstructionist Rabbinical Association and other organizations in calling all Americans across the nation to keep raising our voices for gun violence prevention.
Congregations across the nation participate via prayer, song, vigils, and education.
Weinberg has held majority leadership since 2012. She has served on the state Supreme Court Ad Hoc Committee on Domestic Violence, the state Hall of Fame Selection Advisory Committee, the New Jersey–Israel Commission, the New Jersey Historical Commission, and the state Democratic Committee.
She was vice chair of the Township of Teaneck Council.
At 475 Grove St. in Ridgewood, Temple Israel & JCC offers two worship alternatives within one community: egalitarian conservative and reconstructionist. The Dec. 14 shabbat is a joint service of both congregations.
