WESTWOOD — A short film by Westwood filmmaker Abigail Hill has been selected for screening at the Garden State Film Festival, which returns March 26–29 for its 24th annual celebration of independent cinema.
Hill’s film, God Dam!, will screen Sunday, March 29, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Cranford Theater as part of the festival’s statewide programming.
The mockumentary follows two beavers who work at a post office, with a documentary crew observing a typical workday as Clint Eatswood, an energetic manager, attempts to rein in the chaos created by his unenthusiastic employee, Humphrey Damiels.
The film has already had a hometown showing. The Westwood Free Public Library hosted Hill late last year for a screening followed by a behind-the-scenes presentation, including original puppets and props, a brief making-of video, and discussion about the stop-motion process. The program also included time for audience questions.
The Garden State Film Festival will present 205 films from more than 19 countries across nine venues in Asbury Park, Monmouth County, and Cranford, Union County. Programming includes feature films, shorts, documentaries, comedies, student films, children’s films, pilots, thrillers, and New Jersey–shot “Home-Grown” productions.
“In four days, attendees can experience 205 films and film-centered events from filmmakers worldwide,” said Lauren Concar Sheehy, executive director of the festival. “We’re extremely proud to present bold, original storytelling from accomplished New Jersey filmmakers.”
In addition to screenings, the festival features panel discussions, networking events, workshops, and special honors. Accessibility offerings include subtitled films and the return of the “Cinema for the Ears” series for attendees who are blind or have low vision.
