Englewood man gets DWI summons and more
Police on patrol March 17 just before 2 a.m. stopped an Englewood man, 61, after observing him in his gray Nissan driving on Harrington Avenue with his lights off and then, turning onto Old Hook, drive up onto the sidewalk.
Police said they smelled the strong odor of alcoholic beverage from the man, and that his eyes were bloodshot and watery.
He was unable to satisfactorily complete field sobriety tests, and he was arrested. His car was impounded.
He was given summonses for driving while intoxicated, DWI in a school zone, failure to maintain lane, careless driving, failure to have lights on while driving, and improper signal given. He was to appear at Westwood Municipal Court.
Alcohol a factor as man plants car ‘twixt steps, tree
Police were dispatched to a residence on Hillsdale Avenue March 16 just before 1:30 a.m. for a report of a vehicle colliding with a house.
On the scene, police found a Westwood man, 27, had wedged his Subaru between the front steps and a tree. The driver was out of the car and said he was not injured.
While he was speaking with them, the police observed he smelled of alcoholic beverage and his eyes were bloodshot and watery. They gave him a field sobriety test, which he was unable to satisfactorily complete. He was arrested for DWI (blood alcohol content 0.08 percent).
Police reported he also had an orange powder in his nostrils and moustache.
Summonses, answerable at Municipal Court, are DWI, careless driving, failure to maintain lane, failure to keep right. He was released to a responsible party.
