WESTWOOD, N.J.—Police on patrol June 7 at approximately 3:20 p.m. at Old Hook and Charles Street saw a white Mercedes-Benz on the road, its operator using a non-hands-free cell phone.
Police stopped the car and asked for the driver’s credentials. As the driver, 19, from Paramus, retrieved documents, police smelled marijuana from inside the car.
The driver handed over registration but no license. The passenger handed over a license that turned out to be invalid.
Police called for a second unit to assist.
The driver and passenger were made to exit. A search turned up a grinder with suspected marijuana in it and a fake New York driver’s license.
The passenger, 18, from Paramus, was in possession of a fake Delaware driver’s license and a debit card in another name. The debit card apparently belonged to a friend, who was called and advised how to collect it.
The driver was charged over possession of marijuana under 50 grams, possession of drug paraphernalia, misrepresenting age for the purchase of obtaining alcohol, use of a cell phone while driving, failure to exhibit a valid driver’s license, and possession of controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.
