WESTWOOD, N.J.—Shortly after Westwood Regional School Superintendent Raymond A. Gonzalez announced a 14-day closure of the Westwood Regional School District’s physical spaces over Covid-19, the borough has announced a pause on kids’ activities.
According to Westwood Borough Administrator Ben Kezmarsky at 2:28 p.m., after a Sunday, Oct. 18 announcement from Gonzalez “and after this morning’s initial discussions with the Borough’s health officers at Northwest Bergen Regional Health Commission, the Borough of Westwood is cancelling all K-12 recreational activities for the next 48 hours.”
Kezmarsky said, “This 48-hour pause will allow for borough officials to gather more information on the matter. We want to make a thoroughly vetted decision on the status of these programs while the school district is in a remote learning environment.”
Now fully remote-oriented, the Westwood Regional School District plans to re-open its doors on Monday, Nov. 2. Meanwhile, the abrupt suspension of in-class learning has rattled several families, who are calling for greater transparency from the administration.
