WESTWOOD, N.J.—The Borough Council meets Tuesday, April 15, with a public session set for 7:30 p.m. at Borough Hall, 101 Washington Ave. Officials will consider nearly a dozen resolutions, introduce three new ordinances, and hold public hearings on three ordinances up for adoption—spanning zoning rules, food trucks, and parking regulations.
Before opening the public meeting, the council will convene in closed session at 6:45 to discuss pending litigation, a personnel matter, and a proposed NJ Transit ordinance, all under attorney-client privilege.
Among the highlights of the agenda:
- Bond ordinance introduced: The council will introduce Ordinance 25-12, which authorizes $1.045 million in bonding for public improvements and new equipment. A contribution from Emerson and the use of bond anticipation notes are part of the financing structure.
- Recreation upgrade: Ordinance 25-11 would allocate $6,000 from the borough’s Recreation Trust Fund to acquire and install new dugouts at Westvale Field.
- Phone system overhaul: Ordinance 25-13 proposes $30,000 from capital surplus for a boroughwide phone system upgrade.
- Ordinances up for adoption:
• Ordinance 25-8 updates rules on mobile food vendors and food trucks
• Ordinance 25-9 amends zoning regulations in Chapter 195
• Ordinance 25-10 adjusts parking prohibitions in privately owned public areas - Resolutions of note include authorizing an environmental study tied to a possible property acquisition, opposing proposed state legislation that would preempt local planning authority, and approving funds for infrastructure work, including at the library and DPW.
Departmental updates will include a biweekly report from the borough engineer and liaison reports from the mayor, councilmembers, and attorney.
As always, the public will have an opportunity to speak during the agenda and public forum portions of the meeting.
