Westwood to honor fallen heroes with Memorial Day parade, services

Memorial Day WW

WESTWOOD, N.J.—The borough invites the community to its annual Memorial Day observances on Monday, May 26, featuring traditional services, a parade, and the ever-popular Children’s Bike & Wagon Brigade.

The day begins with a Fire Department Memorial Service at 8 a.m. in Firemen’s Park, hosted by the Westwood Volunteer Fire Department.

At 9, the Memorial Day Parade steps off along Westwood Avenue, culminating at Veterans’ Memorial Park, where the Westwood Veterans Council will lead a solemn military memorial service honoring those who gave their lives in service to the nation.

Children not otherwise marching with sports or scout groups are invited to participate in the Children’s Bike & Wagon Brigade, co-hosted by Celebrate Westwood. Participants should assemble at 8:45 at the corner of Roosevelt and Harrington avenues. Decorated bikes, scooters, trikes, wagons, and strollers are welcome. Helmets and adult supervision are required.

Community members are encouraged to line the parade route and attend the services to show support and reflect on the meaning of the holiday.
