What a pie! Family Fun Fest held on Cedar Lane

Teaneck’s Memorial Day blueberry pie eating contest was all red, white and blue!

TEANECK, N.J.—The Cedar Lane Management Group hosted a Family Street Festival on Memorial Day, during which a Blueberry Pie Eating Competition made for some messy fun!

In a frenzied six minute contest, the pint-sized competitors had to gobble up as much pie as they could without using their hands. A prize was awarded to the child who ate the most pie and to the child with the messiest face. Winners were given $25 cash prizes and instructed, “Do not use this money on your mom or dad!”

The Blueberry Pie eating contest had 7 young contestants. The blueberry pies were donated by Butterflake Bakery and topped with mounds of extra whipped cream.

The festival also saluted veterans, and featured performances by Teaneck Community Chorus and Black Box Singers, as well as an awards ceremony honoring New Jersey’s outstanding community organizations.

The management group works to promote Cedar Lane, Teaneck’s 100-year-old main shopping district and home to 175 businesses, many family owned.

At the event, Ramona Sills, the director of Cedar Lane Management in Teaneck, received an award for community service. Also pictured is Roosevelt Sills (left), a retired U.S. Army command sergeant, who received Teaneck’s Award for Outstanding Military Service. They’re with Karen Careccio, a Cedar Lane businesswoman.
