Seminar on Planning, Zoning Sept. 24

WESTWOOD, N.J.—Westwood for All Ages is hosting Permits 101, a seminar on zoning and permitting in the borough, on Tuesday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. in the Westwood Community Center.

The presentation, by Zoning Board Chair William J. Martin AIA, will unpack the ins and outs of applying for and receiving permits. He will explain the workings of the Building Department, the Westwood Zoning Code, and how the Planning Board and Zoning Boards work and interrelate.

This event is free and open to all Westwood residents. Light refreshments will be provided. RSVP by Monday, Sept. 23 by calling (201) 834-4192 or writing  westwood4allages@gmail.com.

Westwood residents looking to make modifications or additions to their home but who are not sure how to navigate process of applying for and obtaining the necessary permits will want to attend this event.

Other residents who will benefit from attending the seminar are those who want to make their home more accessible and age-friendly to ensure easy “aging in place.”

As residents grow older in their homes they start to consider how making a few improvements here and there might make aging in place not only feasible but also more comfortable.

A few calls to a local contractor might seem like a logical first step, but oftent those conversations can open up a Pandora’s box of questions, with the first one being, “Do we need a permit for that?”

“Since the regulations are not optional, understanding the purpose of permits can really help you navigate the process,” Martin said.
