Nyack woman faces drug charges

NORWOOD, N.J.—On Jan. 23, shortly after 9:30 p.m., a Norwood patrolman stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation on Tappan Road.

While speaking with the driver—a 34-year-old woman from Nyack, N.Y.—the officer was able to detect the odor of burnt marijuana.

Written consent to search the vehicle was obtained and a quantity of marijuana and two pipes that the defendant advised were used to smoke methamphetamine were seized.

The motorist was placed under arrest and transported to Norwood Police Department headquarters where she was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was processed and released pending a Municipal Court date.

Asleep at the wheel, DWI driver had marijuana

NORWOOD, N.J.—On Jan. 26 at about 3:30 a.m., a Norwood officer observed a pickup truck parked with its front tires on the lawn of a Maple Street business and its rear tires on the roadway.

When the officer approached the running vehicle, he found the driver—a 28-year-old man from Suffern, N.Y.—asleep in the driver’s seat.

The driver was awakened. When he rolled down his window, the officer was able to detect the odor of burnt marijuana, which the man admitted to smoking earlier in the night.

The driver was asked to perform several field sobriety tests, which he failed. He was placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated.

A search of the man yielded a bag of marijuana.

The man was transported to Norwood Police Department headquarters, where he refused to submit to a breath test. He was charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana, driving while intoxicated and refusal to submit to a breath test.

This matter will be heard at the Norwood Municipal Court.
