ENGLEWOOD, N.J.—Was Samuel I. Trusty Jr. of Englewood the shooter in a Feb. 13 incident when a man was struck by a stray bullet walking on West Palisade Avenue after dark?

Trusty, 20, faces four counts of attempted murder and other charges after police raided a residence where he was staying March 28, seizing a loaded handgun—which ballistics later showed was the same weapon used Feb. 13, according to Englewood Deputy Chief of Police Gregory Halstead.

The search warranted was executed March 28 in the early morning hours; The handgun was within an arms reach of where Trusty was found, Halstead said.

Trusty allegedly threatened officers and obstructed the investigation, which also revealed the loaded gun had a large-capacity magazine, Halstead said.

Detectives working the Feb. 13 shooting case developed information before the search warrant was authorized, Halstead said.

Englewood’s Emergency Service Unit, Patrol Unit officers, and Englewood Criminal Investigations Bureau detectives executed the search warrant, Halstead said.

Trusty is locked in Bergen County Jail, charged with four counts of attempted murder (of the first degree), two counts of reckless endangerment, possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose and unlawful possession of a weapon.
