Arrested! Warrants Outstanding from Five Jurisdictions (and more from the River Vale Police Blotter)

RIVER VALE, N.J.—An officer on patrol Oct. 2 at approximately 10:15 a.m. observed a vehicle travelling on Rivervale Road with unclear license plates.

The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Poplar Road near Rivervale Road. A computer check showed that the driver had outstanding warrants from Perth Amboy, Elizabeth, Tinton Falls, Toms River, and Knowlton Township.

A back-up officer was requested and responded to the scene.  

The suspect, 41, from Brooklyn, was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters. The warrant from Perth Amboy was a no bail warrant. The suspect was transported to the Bergen County Jail to await transfer to Perth Amboy.  

Prior to being transported, he was issued motor vehicle summonses for improper display/ unclear plates and failure to equip vehicle with proper number of lights, all answerable at the River Vale Municipal Court on Oct. 22.

Seatbelt stop leads to Pearl River man’s arrest

RIVER VALE, N.J.—An officer on patrol Oct. 7 at approximately 10:35 a.m.  observed a vehicle travelling on Westwood Avenue, the driver not wearing a seat belt as required.  

The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Westwood Avenue near Alacci Way.  A computer check revealed that the driver had an outstanding warrant form Northvale for $478. 

A backup officer arrived on scene and the defendant, 30, from Pearl River, was placed under arrest. He was transported to headquarters and posted the requisite bail.

He was issued a motor vehicle summons for failure to wear a seatbelt and released pending an appearance at the River Vale Municipal Court on Oct. 22.

Westwood man taken into custody over unpaid bail

RIVER VALE, N.J.—An officer on patrol Oct. 5 at approximately 3:10 p.m.  observed a vehicle travelling on Rivervale Road with unclear license plates.

The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Rivervale Road near Sunset Lane. A computer check revealed that the driver had outstanding warrants from Westwood and Oradell.

A back-up officer arrived on scene. The defendant, 22, from  Westwood, was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters, where he was unable to post the requisite bail. 

Westwood officers took custody of the defendant, who was issued motor vehicle summonses for driving while license suspended, unregistered motor vehicle, and improper display of plates, all answerable at the River Vale Municipal Court on Oct. 22.

Alleged speeding, swerving, and more for OT man

RIVER VALE, N.J.—An officer on patrol Oct. 6 at approximately 10:30 p.m.  observed a vehicle travelling on Westwood Avenue at a high rate of speed. The officer engaged a radar unit, which confirmed the vehicle speed at 47 miles per hour in a 35 mile per hour zone.

As the officer was attempting to conduct a motor vehicle stop, he observed the vehicle cross over the double yellow lines. 

The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Old Tappan Road near Manwarren Court in Old Tappan. While speaking to the driver, the officer observed his eyes to be bloodshot and watery and observed an open bottle of vodka on the rear floor of the vehicle.  

Backup officers from River Vale and Old Tappan arrived on scene.  The defendant was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety tests.  The officer then detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from the man’s breath.

The defendant, 48, from Old Tappan, failed to complete the tests satisfactorily. He was read his Miranda rights  and placed under arrest for driving while intoxicated. He was transported to police headquarters, where he supplied a breath sample, which yielded a reading above the legal limit.  

He was issued motor vehicle summonses for maintenance of lamps, speeding, reckless driving, careless driving,  driving while intoxicated, and open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle.

He was released to a responsible party pending an appearance at the River Vale Municipal Court on Oct. 22.
