MONTVALE, N.J. — Chase Miller, a 2024 graduate of Pascack Hills High School, has set a New Jersey state powerlifting record after winning his division at the USPA Summer Showdown in Latham, New York.

Competing in the Junior Men (18-19) 100-kilogram weight class, Miller recorded a raw bench press of 162.5 kilograms (357.5 pounds), establishing a new New Jersey state record in the division.

The July 12 meet also earned Miller a gold medal in his age and weight class.

Now entering his junior year at Vanderbilt University, Miller has competed in powerlifting since high school. Raw bench press competition prohibits supportive bench shirts and other equipment designed to increase lifting performance, placing the emphasis on the athlete’s unaided strength.

The state-record lift is expected to be added to the United States Powerlifting Association’s official records following certification.
