EMERSON, N.J. — Bonnie Maison, a member of the Emerson Summer Travel 10U softball team, helped NJ Fire 10U Portorreal earn a fourth-place finish at a B/C-level club tournament in Hagerstown, Maryland, over the weekend.
Maison contributed in the pitching circle and at the plate as NJ Fire played six games against teams from across the Mid-Atlantic region.
Her strongest pitching performance came against the Heartbreakers, when she struck out 10 batters over four innings in a 4-2 loss. Against the Mason Dixon Outlaws, she recorded eight strikeouts and allowed one walk.
Maison finished the tournament with 18 strikeouts in two pitching appearances and also drove in runs for the Fire offense.
NJ Fire’s biggest victory came in an 11-9 win over Shooting Stars Hodges 10U. After the teams exchanged leads, the Fire scored six runs in the fifth inning to pull ahead.
Guest player Fiona F. collected three hits and drove in five runs, while Mattie S. delivered a two-run triple during the rally. Maison entered in relief and helped preserve the victory. NJ Fire finished the game with 12 hits and seven stolen bases.
The Fire also faced the Mid-Atlantic Lady Sox, Firebirds 10U Black, Heartbreakers and Mason Dixon Outlaws during the tournament.
Maison, an Emerson resident, continues to compete for both NJ Fire and the Emerson Summer Travel program.
Her parents are Gina and James Maison. She told Pascack Press on July 14: “All the time I spent at lessons, practices, and the field finally paid off! Thanks to my family, coaches and friends for helping support and instruct me along the way.”
