CLOSTER, N.J. —— The new Closter Plaza has become a destination for many in the Northern Valley and beyond, but never more than on Thursday morning, Nov. 16. The Closter Police Department invited residents to join its officers for “Coffee with a Cop,” a nationwide program that provides a chance to mingle and get to know one another.

Detective Sgt. Vincent Aiello said, “This is our way of reaching out to the community by offering a place to relax, have a cup of coffee and some good conversation.” He also pulled out a stack of baseball-type cards that the department is distributing to children as long as they introduce themselves to an officer. Each card features a different Closter police officer’s photo and tells something about them on the reverse side. Aiello believes the cards are a way to open up communication with the borough’s youth.

Maggie Angresano stopped by Starbucks with her walking companion Sharon Hajjar, and had nothing but glowing reviews of the Closter Police Department. “We walk every morning and reward ourselves with a coffee, often passing members of the police department along our route,” she explained.
