To the editor:
I am writing to strongly support Mark Aronson’s candidacy for the Tenafly Board of Education in this upcoming November’s election. I’ve known Mark for almost 20 years now, having gone to school with both of his sons. I also had the pleasure of working with Mark for two years as the Tenafly High School Student Representative to the BOE from 2006-2008. I saw firsthand how committed he is to ensuring all TPS students receive a great education and how thoughtful he is in bringing that about.
Any time I had an idea I thought might help improve some aspect of the student experience at Tenafly High School, Mark was always one of the first (if not the first) people I talked to. He was one of the strongest advocates on the Board for my role and for the importance of a student voice in all BOE decisions big or small. He helped me determine which of my ideas were feasible, how to propose them, and how to give them the best chance of success. He was a thoughtful partner and friend and my work with him and the Board helped me to serve as a successful advocate for THS students. Through my work with Mark I also learned valuable professional and personal lessons which have served me well in the decade since I’ve left Tenafly High School—as an undergraduate, nonprofit professional, and now an attorney.
There are countless reasons I’m proud to endorse and support Mark, but the number one reason is the same reason I always felt so comfortable bringing any and all opinions to him as a student rep—his approachability and receptiveness to the concerns of others. Mark is thoughtful, intelligent, and a very accomplished business executive—yet he has a terrific sense of humor, is easy to talk to, and is eminently approachable. I know that any time a parent, student, or any taxpayer has a concern or suggestion for the Board, they could approach Mark at any time and he would give them a full and thoughtful hearing. He values feedback, and takes a collaborative approach to everything he does.
Mark Aronson has served the Tenafly BOE and its students well in the past and I know he will continue to do so in the future. He is a strong champion for the students and will continue to champion the work that makes Tenafly one of the special school districts in New Jersey and the country. I am proud to support him in the upcoming elections and proud to call him a friend. I hope you will support him in November.
