Driver Faces Five to 10 Years After Norwood Police Find More Than 200 Xanax Bars

NORWOOD, N.J.—On March 11 at 5:30 p.m., a Norwood patrolman stopped a vehicle for speeding on Livingston Street.  

While speaking with the driver, a 39-year-old man from Dumont, the officer was able to detect the odor of raw marijuana.

The driver admitted that he had recently purchased a quantity of marijuana from an acquaintance and surrendered same to the officer. 

Written consent to search the vehicle was obtained and the following additional contraband was seized: approximately 150 grams of raw marijuana, approximately 310 grams of edible marijuana, 225 Xanax bars, 39 amphetamine pills, several marijuana cigarettes and additional drug paraphernalia.  

The defendant was placed under arrest and transported to Norwood Police Department where he was charged with possession with intent to distribute over 100 Xanax pills (a second degree crime punishable by 5-10 years in prison), possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a schedule one to schedule four controlled dangerous substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.  

This case was transferred to Bergen County Superior Court.
