Emerson PFA invites families to June 4 spring athletic ceremony

EMERSON, N.J.—The Emerson Parents for Athletes organization is inviting athletes and families from the school’s spring varsity, junior varsity and middle school teams to attend the Spring Athletic Ceremony on Thursday, June 4, at 7 p.m. in the Emerson High School auditorium.

The organization also noted that track and field senior recognition is scheduled for Thursday, May 21.

The PFA is continuing its annual membership drive for the 2025-26 school year, with family memberships available for $35. According to the organization, sports programs must reach certain participation thresholds in PFA membership to qualify for grants supporting athletic teams.

Meanwhile, Emerson athletes turned in a busy week of competition across multiple sports.

The varsity softball team won four straight games during the stretch, including a dramatic 4-3 Senior Night victory over Hasbrouck Heights on May 13. The Cavos tied the game in the seventh inning on a two-run double by Brielle Schumeyer before Gabby Micucci drove in Joanna Vigna for the walk-off win. Seniors honored included Sophia Centeno, Kylie Grompone, Micucci, Julia Seretis, Vigna and Addison Youmans.

Emerson followed with victories over Weehawken, Paramus and River Dell. Against River Dell, the Cavos scored six runs in the seventh inning to rally for a 6-3 win. Olivia Samuels delivered a key two-run single, while Sophia Centeno earned the victory in the circle.

In girls lacrosse, EPR edged Paramus Catholic, 14-13, and Indian Hills, 12-11, before defeating Tenafly, 18-9.

The boys lacrosse team posted victories over Dayton and Hawthorne during a 2-2 week. Senior Matt Cappelluti scored his first varsity goal and played four different positions during the win over Dayton.

In boys tennis, Emerson defeated Lodi, 4-1, on Senior Day, honoring Michael DeOrio and Danilo Radulovic. Emerson later hosted the annual “Cavo Cup” doubles tournament featuring teams from New Milford, Union City, West New York, Waldwick and Cliffside Park.

Track and field athletes competed at several meets, including the State Sectional Championships at Livingston High School. Among the highlights, Adonis Pabon placed second in triple jump, James Nienstedt finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles, and Ally Palladino earned sixth-place finishes in both the 100 meters and triple jump. Multiple Emerson athletes also recorded personal-best performances during the week.

The PFA’s next monthly meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 21, at 7 p.m.
