ENGLEWOOD, N.J.—The newest member of Rotary Club of Englewood may be familiar to readers of this newspaper.
Hillary Viders—a regular Northern Valley Press contributor known for her feature writing on community events and organizations, and her “Extraordinary Englewood” interview series that was turned into a book by the Englewood Historic Society—was sworn into the local chapter of the international service organization on Tuesday, Oct. 15, by Rotary Club of Englewood President JoEllen Knie, alongside members Joyce Grossbard and Aleta Frezzell (pictured above).
“The Rotary Club of Englewood is part of a worldwide organization of leaders, and business professionals, that provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world,” according to the organization. “Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 31,000 Rotary clubs located in 166 countries.”
The local branch was established in 1953 and is known for its exemplary record of service to both local and international communities.
Viders comes to Rotary as she continues to enjoy a dynamic career, that includes time spent as a journalist, public speaker—and also as an underwater explorer.
“Hillary Viders is an internationally acclaimed speaker, educator and author, with an unusually extensive range of interests and expertise,” according to her biography in the Women Divers Hall of Fame, an organization she co-founded. “Over the past 40 years, her contributions to diving have spanned almost every major sector of the industry: arts, science, undersea and hyperbaric medicine, dive training and education, dive travel, dive media, safety, and undersea exploration.”
