EMERSON, N.J.—Stephanie Leigh Morgan was not just another student that attended Emerson Jr./Sr. High School. Stephanie had a passion for softball and art, and it showed greatly when she would be on the softball diamond or in the classroom.
Stephanie sadly passed away after being in a car accident in April of 2015.
In her honor, Stephanie’s family and close friends decided to make a softball tournament in her name. The annual tournament will be taking place on Saturday, June 8 starting at noon and the championship game starting around 7 p.m.
According to the Facebook page, dedicated to the tournament, all proceeds are going to be benefiting the “Stephanie Morgan Art and Athletic Scholarship” along with other charitable causes.
Stephanie’s dad and coach, Dave Morgan, recently reflected how the tournament keeps Stephanie’s memory alive and how this tournament helps graduating seniors.
“The committee worked so hard to organize the tournament for this year and the past three years,” said Morgan. “I would like to thank the Smith’s, Georgatos’s and the O’Connell families for years of support. I would like to thank my family, everybody playing, sponsors, the Borough of Emerson, and anybody who has donated to the family, all in Stephanie’s memory.”
Some of the people playing in the tournament include Stephanie’s former classmates, friends, family, Emerson Police Department, Nick Smith’s team Hawks, and outside teams that have heard about the tournament through Facebook. There is a total of 10 teams playing.
