Grants to aid seniors, many others in region

Municipalities, non-profits, and families countywide are hailing awards under the fiscal year 2017-2018 Community Development Block Grant program, which addresses myriad community, housing, and economic development needs.

As determined by the Pascack Valley and Northern Valley Community Development Regional Committees and as ultimately approved by the federal department of Housing and Urban Development, here is the Pascack Valley region’s award list:

• Pascack Valley Meals on Wheels: Pascack Valley Region, $7,638.

• Thomas J. Riley Senior Center Corp.: Nutrition program, $16,485.

• Senior citizen activities for the boroughs of Emerson, Hillsdale, Montvale, Old Tappan, Oradell, Park Ridge, River Vale, Westwood, and Woodcliff Lake, and the Township of Washington, $3,338 each.

• Borough of Emerson: Drainage and road improvements to Pine Drive, $40,000.

• Borough of Hillsdale: Handicapped accessible curb ramps, $30,000.

• Township of Riverdale: Handicapped accessible bathroom at Ambulance Corp, $70,000.

• Borough of Westwood: Westwood Avenue sidewalk project, $75,000.

• Borough of Woodcliff Lake: Tice Senior Center floor resurfacing, $21,583.

• Borough of Closter: Senior citizen activities, $3,211.

• Borough of Closter: Senior van driver, $2,500.

• Borough of Harrington Park: Senior citizen activities, $3,500.

• Borough of Northvale: Operation of McGuire Senior Center, $35,000.

• Borough of Norwood: Senior citizen activities, $3,500.

• Borough of Norwood: Senior van driver, $2,500.

• Pascack Valley Meals on Wheels: Northern Valley Region, $9,000.

• Spectrum for Living: NV Respite and Socialization Program, $11,200.

• Vantage Health System: Northern Valley Adult Day Center

• Borough of Bergenfield: Hughes Road and Madison Avenue improvements, $86,883.

• Borough of Dumont: Columbia Avenue rehabilitation, $86,883.

• Borough of Harrington Park: Handicapped accessible ramps and sidewalks at Borough Hall and Library, $55,200.

• Borough of New Milford: Faller Drive road resurfacing, $86,886.

• Township of Teaneck: Vorhees Street resurfacing, $86,883.

• Borough of Tenafly: Senior Center exterior sidewalk improvements, $19,500.
