Hillsdale Hires New Borough Administrator

HILLSDALE, N.J.—Christopher Tietjen is the borough’s new full-time borough administrator, starting mid-December at a salary of $115,000.

He takes over from Robert Gallione at the end of the month, after a two-week overlap. Gallione, a resident of Montvale, has been serving as interim borough administrator since late October, following the resignation of Jonathan DeJoseph.

According to Mayor John Ruocco in a note to residents Dec. 2, Tietjen spent several years as the borough administrator of Peapack-Gladstone and as assistant township manager of Pequannock.

He is a graduate of Montclair State University and Seton Hall University, from which he holds a master’s degree in public administration.

Tietjen’s appointment was adopted in a unanimous resolution, with Councilmember Steven Segalas absent, at a special meeting on Nov. 26. Meanwhile, Ruocco said, the borough continues its search for a part-time certified municipal finance officer. That role, too, was filled by DeJoseph.
