Brake light out leads to arrest over marijuana
On April 12 at 10:43 a.m., Sgt. Michael Camporeale conducted a motor vehicle stop on Broadway at Cross Street for a vehicle with a malfunctioning brake light.
Upon walking up to the vehicle, Camporeale detected an odor of marijuana. The driver, 35, from Paterson, was asked to step out of the vehicle and a probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted. The driver stated he had personal use marijuana in the back seat. A box containing a small mason jar with marijuana inside was located in the back seat.
The driver was arrested, taken to police headquarters for processing, and charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams. He was released pending a court date.
Passenger from Newark arrested over marijuana
Patrolman Brian Considine conducted a motor vehicle stop on Pascack Road on April 14 at 10:15 a.m. due a vehicle having no front license plate. Upon approaching the vehicle and making contact with the driver and front-seat passenger, Considine advised them why they had been stopped and requested the passenger’s identification. The passenger said he didn’t have it with him.
While getting the information, Considine detected the odor of marijuana emanating from inside the vehicle. He requested backup and instructed both people out of the vehicle, advising he’d be conducting a probable-cause search of the car.
The passenger, 29, from Newark, was found to have a cigarillo pack with a small plastic baggie containing suspected marijuana.
The driver was searched with negative results and was released from the scene with a verbal warning for having no front license plate and an unregistered vehicle.
The passenger was arrested, transported to headquarters, and charged with possession of marijuana under 50 grams. He was released pending a municipal court date.
