HILLSDALE, N.J.—The Hillsdale Board of Education is expected to consider a new five-year employment agreement with Superintendent Robert V. Lombardy Jr. when it meets Monday, Aug. 24.
Under the resolution, Lombardy’s current contract—scheduled to expire in July 2028—would be rescinded and replaced by an agreement running retroactively from July 1, 2026, through June 30, 2031. The new agreement has received approval from the executive county superintendent, according to the meeting agenda. Compensation and other contract terms are not detailed in the agenda.
The board will also consider authorizing the reopening of the George G. White Middle School gymnasium for daily lunch periods, physical-education classes and after-school activities. The action would represent a milestone in the school’s ongoing addition and renovation project.
Two construction payments to contractor Dobco Inc., totaling approximately $6.27 million, are also on the agenda. The project’s revised contract amount stands at $37.19 million. District goals call for the full reoccupation of George White and the return of fifth-grade students from temporary elementary-school placements for the 2027–28 school year.
In other business, the board is scheduled to take a second and final vote on revisions to Policy 5756, Transgender Students. Such policies generally address students’ names and pronouns, privacy, parental notification, access to facilities and activities, student records, dress and protection from harassment. The agenda labels the policy “mandated and revised” but does not include the amended language or identify the specific changes being proposed.
The board will also introduce policies governing students’ use of internet-connected devices and transportation in private or district-owned vehicles.
The meeting begins with a closed executive session at 4 p.m. to discuss contracts, legal and personnel matters. The public portion is expected to begin at approximately 4:30 p.m. at the Anthony S. De Norchia Administration Building.
