He was driving without a functioning rear license plate light when police stopped him on Kinderkamack Road.

His registration had been suspended over parking offenses. Explaining why he didn’t have his license, he told police his wallet had been stolen. He produced a photo of his license on his cell phone.

His car was impounded to Emerson.

Stopped for brake light, he picks up a slew of citations

A Haledon man, 23, seen driving with only one working brake light, turned out not to be in possession of vehicle registration, as his had expired in October 2018.

At the Jan. 2 stop, a computer check also showed that the registered owner was suspended. The insurance company reported the man’s coverage was cancelled on Aug. 15, 2018.

While waiting for the duty tow to respond, the officer issued the following summonses: maintenance of lamps, unregistered motor vehicle, suspended driver’s license, failure to surrender driver’s license within five days after suspension, failure to inspect vehicle, uninsured motor vehicle, and unsafe tires.

All summonses are answerable to Pascack Joint Municipal Court on Jan. 16.

Once the vehicle was secured on the tow truck, the defendant left with the tow truck operator.

On Jan. 3, the defendant presented himself to headquarters to retrieve his car. He had tended to his credentials.
