It’s always a sentimental event for the Pascack Valley community, as the tournament is named for the late school principal, Joseph Poli, who died suddenly in 1989. Each year, the invitational is an early season test for some of Bergen County’s best teams.

The win also came as head coach Jeff Jasper neared an unparalleled coaching milestone of his own: 1,000 career wins.

Having coached generations of women during his tenure at Pascack Valley, Jasper has steered the renowned basketball program since 1973. The milestone victory could be forthcoming soon: Pascack Valley has yet to lose in this winter season, holding a record of 7-0 heading into a Jan. 5 tip-off against
Paramus (result not known at press time).

The team continues mid-season action this week. They’re scheduled to play at
Bergenfield on Jan. 9, then Northern Highlands at home on Jan. 11.
