Haledon woman snagged on $3,600 bail

An officer on patrol at noon on July 22 observed a vehicle traveling on Rivervale Road with an obstructed license plate.  The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Rivervale Road near Brookside Avenue. 

A computer check revealed that the driver had two outstanding warrants from Westwood for $3,600. A backup officer arrived and the defendant, 29, from Haledon, was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters

Unable to post the required bail, she was turned over to the custody of the Westwood Police Department.

Police warn after resident caught up in identity theft

A resident reported on July 23 that an unknown person had used his personal identifying information to open accounts with several cell phone providers and purchase several cell phones. He became aware of the fraud when he received bills for the fraudulently opened accounts. This matter is under investigation. Residents are urged to be vigilant with the security of their personal and financial information.

Stop for brake light leads to warrant arrest

An officer on patrol July 30 at  10 p.m. observed a vehicle traveling on Rivervale Road with a malfunctioning brake light. The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Harriot Avenue in Harrington Park. A computer check revealed that the driver had an outstanding criminal warrant from Union City.

A backup officer arrived and the defendant, 36, from Bronx, N.Y. was placed under arrest and transported to police headquarters.  He was issued a motor vehicle summons for maintenance of lamps, answerable at the River Vale Municipal Court on Aug. 13,

Officers from the Union City Police Department responded and took custody.
