RIVER VALE POLICE BLOTTER: March 18, 2019

Northvale man found with drugs, paraphernalia

An officer checking license plates March 9 at approximately 7:50 p.m. received a “hit” for an unregistered vehicle traveling on Rivervale Road. The officer conducted a motor vehicle stop on Poplar Road. 

While speaking to the driver, the officer detected the odor of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The officer obtained the drivers credentials and confirmed that the vehicle registration had expired.  A back up officer arrived on scene.

A search turned up a plastic tube containing marijuana on the rear seat and a marijuana cigarette in a storage compartment near the rear seat.  

The driver, 19, from Northvale, was arrested and taken to  headquarters. He was issued a criminal complaint for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He also was issued motor vehicle summonses for driving an unregistered vehicle, improper display of license plates, safety glass requirements/tinted windows, and possession of controlled dangerous substance in a  motor vehicle.  

He was released on his own recognizance pending an appearance at River Vale Municipal Court on March 19.

Cracked glass, no sticker, and an outstanding warrant 

An officer on motor patrol On March at approximately 12:35 p.m. reported he observed a vehicle travelling on Blue Hill Road with a cracked windshield and no inspection sticker. 

He said he conducted a motor vehicle stop on Blue Hill Road near Orangeburg Road, where a computer check revealed that the driver had an outstanding $250 warrant from Carlstadt.

A backup officer arrived and the 37-year-old defendant from Newark was placed under arrest and transported to headquarters.  He man posted the requisite bail and was released.
