WESTWOOD, N.J.—Chief Michael R. Pontillo announced the arrest of Shaadiek B. Butler of Palisades Avenue on the charges of receiving stolen property, eluding and resisting arrest, obstructing the administration of law, and possession of burglar’s tools.
According to Pontillo, Butler was arrested in the early morning hours of Nov. 23. The Westwood Police Department was conducting targeted patrols due to recent car burglaries when an officer saw Butler walking a large tire down the road. As the officer approached Butler, a foot pursuit ensued that resulted in the defendant’s arrest.
Butler, 20, was processed and was remanded to the Bergen County Jail awaiting a Central Judicial Processing hearing on Monday, Nov. 25, then released on bond, records show.
As a public safety announcement, the Westwood Police Department reminds residents to be vigilant, to lock their car doors, remove keys and key fobs, and not to leave expensive items outside, unattended, or unsecured.
“Theft is often a crime of opportunity. Leave your outside lights on, secure your belongings and report suspicious activity immediately. Westwood Police will be conducting both uniform and plainclothes anti-burglary details through the holiday season. Please partner with us in reducing the chances of becoming the next victim,” he said.
