Westwood Rec offers fun camps Aug. 7-11

The Westwood Recreation Department offers a variety of camps this summer at the conclusion of its Summer Playground Program.  Camps will be held Aug. 7–11 at the Westwood Community Center unless otherwise noted. Registration for Westwood residents is underway. The following camps are offered:

USSI multi-sports

Campers will learn and play 15 sports in one week at Brookside Park. Ages 6-14 can choose from: 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., $195; 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., $165; or 1-4 p.m., $115. Camp for ages 3-5 runs from 4:30-5:30 p.m., $95. All children receive a T-shirt. For more information, visit ussportsinstitute.com. Rain site is the community center.

Golf and tennis

TGA-Premier Golf & Tennis hosts this full-day camp at Westwood High School for children in grades K-8. Using unique/innovative techniques that are specifically designed to maximize the learning experience for today’s youth, TGA coaches teach the games of golf and tennis in a fun, non-intimidating environment. Campers will have the option to stay for the full day and try their hand at both sports or just do a half-day, one-sport camp.

Tennis will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and golf will be held from 1-4 p.m. Campers will be broken up into smaller groups, based on their age and skill. All skill levels are welcome. TGA provides all equipment. Camp runs Aug. 7-10 (Friday rain date). Fee: $259 for both camps/$149 for single camp.

ArtBlast STEM

Lean about how science is an inspiration for many artists. Boost your imagination while you play and paint with magnets, build and design robots and develop your engineering skills. Camp is held from 9:30 a.m. to noon for children in grades K-5. Fee: $165.

Performing arts

Campers will have a blast learning all the skills to make it to Broadway, voice, dance and acting. On the last day, parents will be treated to an Oscar-rated performance! For grades 3-6. Camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Fee: $185.

Hydraulic arm technology

Build and take home your own hydrologic arm! This requires no motors or batteries because it is powered by water. Learn about hydraulic systems while having fun. For grades 4-8, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Fee: $175.

Intro to STEM with Lego

Tap into your imaginations with tens of thousands of Lego parts! Students can explore the endless creative possibilities of the Lego buildings system. Fee: $150. Grades K-2 meet 9 a.m. to noon.

STEM challenge with Lego

Power on your engineering skills with tens of thousands of Lego parts. Apply real-world concepts in physics, engineering and architecture through engineer- designed projects. Build and explore your craziest ideas! Fee: $150. Grades 3-5 meets 1-4 p.m.

Floor Hockey/Ultimate Frisbee 

Coaches lead students in grades K-8 through station-based drills and games at Voorhis Park. Floor hockey campers will learn dribbling, passing, shooting, defending and goal keeping.  Camp runs 9 am. to noon. Ultimate Frisbee campers will develop the skills of throwing, catching and marking. Fee $225 for both camps; $139 for single camp. Aug. 7-10 (Monday through Thursday, rain date Friday).
