CLOSTER, N.J.—It was a very retro Christmas party at Closter’s Lustron home, the relic of the post-World War II housing boom, a pre-fabricated structure at 421 Durie Ave., which is now a borough-owned historic site.

The site opens on the second Saturday of each month, and on Dec. 14 the theme was Christmas, with classic seasonal songs being played through a 1950s phonograph and other time-period toys and iconography.

The group even had a visit from Santa—pictured above with Mayor John Glidden and members of the Closter Historic Society and Friends of the Lustron.

The Friends of the Lustron invite the public to join them during the monthly open house, a unique opportunity for guests to explore the unusual features of this unique piece of borough history, such as built-in cabinetry, enameled metal walls, and the home’s washer/dish washer—used to wash both dishes and clothes!
