HILLSDALE—The Hillsdale 125th Anniversary Committee kicked off a year of celebrations on Feb. 21 with a presentation on local history by Sean Smith, author of “Images of America, Hillsdale.”  The full-house event, hosted by the Hillsdale Free Public Library, focused on life in Hillsdale from its incorporation in 1898 to the mid-1950s.

Our correspondent Gerry Beatty says the audience enjoyed stories and photos of early residents, the railroad, homes, farms, churches, schools, businesses, and recreation. Additional highlights included memories of the early days of Hillsdale’s police and fire departments.

The audience included residents of Hillsdale, many former residents, and descendants of some of the early settlers of Hillsdale.

At the request of the audience, another evening of historical images and story of Hillsdale will be planned. For more information about the yearlong celebration, see our story “A great look for Hillsdale at 125! Student’s logo to star in year of celebration” and visit Hillsdale125thAnniversary.com.
