TOWNSHIP OF WASHINGTON—When the Westwood Regional Board of Education convenes for its regular meeting on March 18 at the High School Board of Education conference room, it’ll face a full agenda starting with a private executive session at 6:30 p.m. to discuss personnel and legal matters.

In public session, at 7 p.m. in the Hurley Theater at the high school, the board is poised to pass resolutions congratulating students for earning the rank of Eagle Scout and the Seal of Biliteracy. As well, staff members and students will be recognized for their exemplary behavior and contributions through the People Make the Difference recognition program.

The previous meeting, March 7, was on the budget. This is the regular session, which usually falls on a Thursday.

And policy items are on the agenda, including reinstating Policy 5756 on transgender students, and rescinding Policy 9244, a.k.a. “Parental Notice of Material Circumstances.”

Denise Velez, Director of Elementary Education, will present on “Elementary Consistency Improvements.”

During a public forum, district residents and staff will address the board on agenda items specifically listed for the evening. Remarks will be directed to the Board as a whole, with each speaker allotted three minutes. The forum will last 30 minutes.

The meeting will showcase the Board’s commitment to recognizing student achievements, staff excellence, and community engagement in educational matters.

Eagle Scouts to be recognized are from BSA Troop 350: Andre Chevrier, grade 11; Benjamin Fischer, grade 11; and Maximus Perez, 12th grade.

Another motion will be proposed, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, to adopt the resolution on Seal of Biliteracy recognition. The seal recognizes students who have demonstrated proficiency in English and at least one additional world language according to the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages Proficiency guidelines.

A motion will be proposed, based on the Superintendent’s recommendation, to adopt a resolution implementing the People Make the Difference recognition program “to honor staff members and students who exhibit exemplary behavior and attributes in key areas.” Named in the resolution: George Elementary School staff member Kelly O’Connor and high school student Amara Geipel, for demonstrating excellence based on the specific criteria of the program.
