ALPINE, N.J.—A 50-year-old man from Closter was hospitalized in serious, but stable condition, after Palisades Interstate Parkway Police said he overdosed Sunday, Oct. 20 inside a car at the Stateline Lookout.

Norwood police told the PIPD that a suicidal male party was possibly traveling to the Stateline Lookout in a white 2018 Lexus, said PIPD Lt. Jock H. Watkins, Jr.

“Palisades Interstate Parkway Police Officers responded to the Stateline Lookout and located the vehicle and the male party who was still inside. Officers at the scene reported that the male party was unconscious, and the vehicle was locked and in reverse,” said Watkins, Jr. “After unsuccessful attempts to awaken the driver, the car reversed into the front bumper of a police vehicle, which disabled the patrol car. Officers then gained entry into the vehicle and removed the unconscious male from the driver seat.”

Officers immediately began first aid upon removing the victim, determined he had overdosed and administered Naloxone, said Watkins. The victim’s vital signs improved, but he remained unconscious. PIPD Officers continued first aid until the arrival of EMS, Watkins said.

Closter Ambulance and Hackensack Hospital Paramedics transported the victim to Englewood Hospital in serious, but stable condition.
