PARK RIDGE, N.J.—The Upper Pascack Valley CROP Hunger Walk will be held on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 1 p.m. and begins and end at the First Congregational Church, 131 Pascack Road, Park Ridge.

Registration begins at 12:30 p.m.

Now in its 46th year, the Upper Pascack Valley CROP walk has raised more than $500,000 to respond to food crisis and to also help people develop their abilities to produce food.

The walk is an interfaith project consisting of six congregations in Montvale, Park Ridge, and Woodcliff Lake who will join some 2,000 cities hosting CROP Walks nationwide.

Last year 80 Walkers generated nearly $20,000 in sponsorships in the Pascack Valley area. This year 25% of the funds will be used locally, including funds for the Triboro Food Pantry and the Family Promise Center.

This is the 50th anniversary of the CROP (Communities Responding to Overcome Poverty) Walk developed by the Church World Services (CWS), an international nonprofit organization that brings together people of different faiths to respond to emergencies from New Jersey to Haiti to Syria.

They also develop clean water and food production capabilities. In addition to the joy of doing something good for the less fortunate, another benefit enjoyed by the walkers is the exercise, as they safely stroll the sidewalks on a pleasant 6-mile course with family, friends and neighbors.

For those with difficulty walking the full length, a 2-mile route is offered.

Congregations recruiting walkers include First Congregational Church, Our Lady Mother of the Church, Temple Beth Sholom, Our Lady of Mercy, Park Ridge United Methodist, and Temple Emanuel.

They will each have individual campaigns to provide information and sign up walkers and sponsors. Additionally, anyone interested in participating, donating, or sponsoring can do it by going to the Upper Pascack Valley page at crophungerwalk.org/parkridgenj.
