Kol Dorot Announces High Holy Day Worship

TOWNSHIP OF WASHINGTON, N.J.—Kol Dorot: A Reform Jewish Community, the new congregation formed with the merger of Temple Beth El of Northern Valley in Closter, and Temple Beth Or in Washington Township, invites everyone in the community to join them for the High Holy Day season. The temple welcomes participation in Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur worship by community members, guests, and visitors.  

Some worship services require a ticket, which are available for purchase at the Kol Dorot Office at a special rate. Services requiring a ticket are: Erev Rosh Hashanah, Sunday, Sept. 29 at 7:30 p.m.; Rosh Hashanah morning, Monday Sept. 30, at 8:45 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.; Erev Yom Kippur—Kol Nidrei, Tuesday, Oct. 8, at 7:30 p.m.; and Yom Kippur morning, Wednesday, Oct. 9, at 8:45 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. 

Selichot will be on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 7:30 pm. This service will be a wonderful night of reflection, discussion and preparation for the High Holy Days.

Many worship services are open to the community without a ticket, including: Shofar Kids and Family Service on Rosh Hashanah at 2:30 p.m., Tashlich at 4 p.m.; Rosh Hashanah Service 2nd Day, Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 10 a.m.; Yom Kippur, Wednesday, Oct. 9, Shofar Kids and Family Service at 2 p.m., Afternoon service at 3:30 p.m., Yizkor, Ne’ilah and Havdallah at 5 p.m., and Break-the-Fast at 6:30 p.m.

Of special note are several family-friendly and children’s services, also open to the community without a ticket. Led by Rabbi David Widzer, Rabbi Noah Fabricant, and Cantor Sarah Silverberg, these special services are designed to create warm and deep Jewish memories. The Shofar Kids service for Rosh Hashanah is Monday, Sept. 30 at 2:30 p.m., and continues at a Township of Washington location for Tashlich at 4 p.m.  The Shofar Kids service for Yom Kippur is Wednesday, Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. These lively services are followed by a holiday craft project and are geared towards families with children from birth through second grade, though all ages are welcome. Feel free to join us and even bring a friend. Grandparents are especially welcome! 

Kol Dorot, Hebrew for “Voice of Generations,” serves Jewish families in Northern Bergen County and beyond.
