MONTVALE POLICE: Denial Turns Into Confession On Cannabis In Car

MONTVALE, N.J.—An officer on patrol at the Garden State Parkway Rest Area on May 16 at 2:30 p.m. arrested a driver there on drug charges.

As the officer drove slowly through the parking lot of the rest area he detected the odor of burnt marijuana.

At first the suspect, who appeared nervous, denied having marijuana in the car—then he admitted he had just smoked a joint.

He also said there was more contraband in the back seat.

The officer called for backup. Two units arrived. Shortly after, the suspect, 57, directed the reporting officer to a bag containing narcotics, and handed it over.

The search of the bag yielded a dish container with several different forms of cannabis contraband. The officer recovered two plastic Zip-lock bags with raw marijuana, two cannabis oil vape cartridges, one cannabis dab wax packaged in a wax fold, one glass smoking pipe, and one package of rolling papers.

The defendant was read his Miranda rights, placed under arrest, and taken to headquarters. He consented to leaving his car at the scene.

He was charged with the following criminal complaints: two counts of possession of marijuana and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, as was issued a summons for having a controlled dangerous substance in a motor vehicle.

Police then gave him a courtesy ride back to his car.
