Swerving driver on Tappan Road charged with DWI

On Dec. 1, 2018, at about 2:30 a.m., a Norwood Patrolman stopped a vehicle that was heading north on Tappan Road after observing the car swerve over the double yellow line, then swerve in the opposite direction over the fog line and over a large pile of leaves on the side of the road.

While speaking with the driver, a 24-year-old woman from Northvale, the officer was able to detect the odor of an alcoholic beverage.

The motorist was asked to perform several field sobriety tests which she failed. She was placed under arrest and transported to Norwood Police Department headquarters where she recorded a 0.23 percent blood alcohol content.

The defendant was charged with driving while intoxicated, failure to maintain lane and careless driving.

Driver with faulty headlight had marijuana

On Dec. 7, 2018, at about 11:15 p.m., a Norwood Patrolman stopped a vehicle with a headlight out on Livingston Street. While speaking with the driver, a 37-year -old Paterson resident, the officer was able to detect the odor of raw marijuana.

After obtaining consent to search the vehicle the officer located a bag of marijuana in the center console of the car. The motorist was placed under arrest and charged with possession of under 50 grams of marijuana and released.

DWI driver was unable to provide breath sample

On Jan. 4 at 10:30 p.m., a Norwood Patrolman stopped a vehicle that was heading east on Broadway after observing the car swerve over the fog line almost striking a sign on the side of the roadway.

While speaking with the driver, a 46-year-old female Harrington Park resident, the officer was able to detect the odor of an alcoholic beverage. The motorist was asked to perform several field sobriety tests, which she failed. She was placed under arrest and transported to Norwood Police Department headquarters where she was unable to provide an adequate breath sample.

The defendant was charged with driving while intoxicated, refusal to provide a breath sample, failure to maintain lane and careless driving.

Resident who struck utility pole charged with DWI

On Jan. 9, 2019, at about 7:30 p.m., Norwood officers were dispatched to a one-car crash on McClellan Street.

Responding officers located a vehicle that had struck a utility pole and sustained serious damage.

The driver, a 58-year-old Norwood resident, remained on scene.
The driver admitted to consuming several alcoholic beverages prior to driving and failed a series of field sobriety tests.

The man was transported to a local hospital and after obtaining written consent, blood was drawn for analysis by the New Jersey State Police Crime Lab.

Charges were filed for driving while intoxicated, failure to maintain lane and careless driving.
