NORWOOD, N.J.—A child walking to school Nov. 21 on Summit Street was accosted by a teenage boy and chased home, borough police said.

Police asked for anyone with information about the case to call them, and said the child described the pursuing teenager as a high school aged white male with curly brown hair and close-set eyes, wearing a blue jacket.

The child—who was walking to school at 7:30 a.m., about 15 minute before borough crossing guards go on duty—told the teen to get out of the street, police said. That’s when the teen said “no more house” and chased the boy back to his Summit Street home.

Police said the incident occurred outside the Region III School on Summit Avenue. The Northern Valley Regional School District recently closed a $5.9 million purchase of 200 Summit Ave., renamed Northern Valley Central. The facility houses the district’s Region III program, which currently serves 133 children and adults with special needs from nearly 50 towns in Bergen County, including many Northern Valley communities.

Norwood police said kids should not walk to school until 7:45 a.m., when crossing guards and officers are posted.

The boy reported the issue to school officials after fleeing home, calling his mother, waiting for crossing guards to be posted, then going to school, police said.

“Please call the Norwood Police’s Detective Bureau at (201) 750-8623 if you have any information concerning this case. Thank you,” The department wrote.
