CRESSKILL POLICE BLOTTER: June 17, 2019

Driver—busted two days earlier—had cocaine

On June 1, Detective Sgt. Jason Lanzilotti conducted a motor vehicle stop on Knickerbocker Road. The vehicle was stopped for having front-window tints and a broken driver’s side tail light.

The driver, a 42-year-old male, admitted to having been arrested a day or two earlier for possession of two bags of heroin. The man consented to having his vehicle searched after telling the officer that there were no illegal substances inside.

A small tube was found containing cocaine on the passenger side. The man was arrested and transported to Cresskill Police Headquarters to be processed. He was charged with possession of cocaine and given motor vehicle summonses for tinted windows and the broken tail light.

His first appearance at Central Municipal Court in Hackensack was on June 12.

Woman falls victim to phone scam

On June 3 at around 11:57 a.m., a woman, 58, walked into Cresskill Police Headquarters to report that she had been scammed over the phone.

She stated that she had received a phone call where the person asked for her Social Security number, bank account numbers, and credit card numbers, which she provided. The woman began to feel scammed once the caller told her that sheriffs from Texas were looking for her.

The police advised her not to answer calls from that number and to hang up when callers ask for her Social Security number. She was also advised to check all bank accounts and contact the Social Security Office. The case was turned over to the detective bureau.
