Piano buyer tried to use fake check 

A 23-year-old resident reported March 14 that she attempted to sell a piano online, but the purchasing party tried to pay her with a fraudulent check. 

The deal was made by text message, and a check was written out for $3,950.83. The resident immediately recognized the check was fake, and reported it. Meanwhile, the piano was sold to another buyer. 

The detective bureau is investigating; the sender of the check is still requesting the piano.

Resident a victim of identity theft

A 53-year-old resident reported March 7 that there had been unusual activity on her credit cards, totaling $10,450 worth of merchandise. The resident stated that she is concerned that her personal data may have been compromised and has notified the involved credit card companies, Internal Revenue Service and credit bureaus. 

The resident was advised to monitor her credit reports and report any additional activity.
