Another new police officer was administered the oath of office in Cresskill last week.

With more than a dozen members of the police department present, Officer Joshua J. Basket was sworn in by borough clerk Francesca Maragliano.

Basket is the second new officer to be sworn in to the department in recent weeks. Back on Oct. 17, Michael Poling was administered the oath of office.

Chief of Police Edward Wrixon said both new officers were appointed due to recent retirements within the department.

After the Dec. 19 swearing in ceremony, Wrixon praised Basket calling him a “phenomenal young man.”

“He came out as one of the top individuals,” said Wrixon. “He put himself through the Bergen County Police Academy on his own [in the] alternative route program.”

Mayor Ben Romeo also praised the newly appointed officer calling him “a nice young man.”

“And we look forward to having him in the department,” said Wrixon.

After he was sworn in Basket was congratulated by the mayor and council who all welcomed him to the force and wished him good luck.

Basket begins his service as an officer on the force “effective immediately” according to the resolution. He was unanimously approved by the governing body.
