Start Holiday Shopping Early, Support Local Charities

ENGLEWOOD, N.J.—Member of National Council of Jewish Women Bergen County Section and Sisterhood of Temple Sinai of Bergen County know a lot about what kind of shopping gets women excited.

“It’s two things, really,” they said, “getting a head start on shopping for the holidays and shopping for a good cause.”

The two organizations have partnered with 12 great stores on Dean Street in Englewood to make both a reality.

On Thursday, Nov. 14, beginning at 10 a.m. and ending around 6 p.m. women from all over Bergen County—and beyond—will be able to take “The Dean Street Stroll.”

“The expression, shop until you drop will take on new meaning,” say organizers. “Those taking part will not just fill their shopping bags with good things for their families, their friends, and themselves, but they’ll know that 10% of all sales in those 12 stores—through NCJW and Sinai’s Sisterhood—will support local non-sectarian community organizations that address the issues of hunger, children’s programming, and seniors in Bergen County.”

This is the first time the two organizations have collaborated in this manner. Franci Steinberg, president of Temple Sinai Sisterhood, and Joan Ornstein, NCJW BCS co-vice president of fundraising, are thrilled with the new partnership.

“We are most fortunate to have an exciting array of stores and restaurants in Englewood who are participating,” said Steinberg.

“We are most grateful for their support of important Bergen County causes,” Ornstein added.

Participating merchants include Arielle’s Gallery, Anac Designs, Atrex Shoes, Ayesha Studio Jewelry, Engle Shop, Engle Shop Too, Florentia Boutique, Marcia’s Attic, Marcia’s Attic Kids, Medici, Portage, and Pumpkin & Bean. And if shoppers want to take a break, two of Englewood’s prime restaurants, Blue Moon, and Red and White Pasta, are offering specially discounted lunch.

National Council of Jewish Women, Bergen County Section provides educational and stimulating programs and speakers throughout the year, including six general meetings and a myriad of study groups, book groups, trips and advocacy opportunities.

Temple Sinai Sisterhood is the collective voice of the women of Temple Sinai of Bergen County, a vibrant and inclusive Reform Temple serving the Jewish community in northern New Jersey. The Sisterhood enjoys and explores spiritual and social programs together in friendship and provides opportunities for women of all ages to perform acts of tikkun olam (repairing the world) in a warm and welcoming community.
